From Budget to Baller 6 Tips to Grow Your Money
From Budget to Baller 6 Tips to Grow Your Money From Budget to Baller: 6 Tips to Grow Your Money From Budget to Baller: 6 Tips to Grow Your MoneyIf you want an investment portfolio, retirement fund and a boat, great! You can get it. But, youll need to get your short-term finances together first. That means making a budget and building an emergency fund.We reached out to personal finance expert Angel Radcliffe (@MissRMBA), owner of CAS Consultants, for some simple beginnerâs advice. She gave us six great tips that will help any money newbie get the basics right today so you can start investing tomorrow.1. BudgetâWork on your personal budget, Angel says. Before investing, you must learn to budget and save money for emergencies.âNo matter what your financial goals are, it all starts with building a sensible budget. That way, you know how much money youâre spending as well as what youâre spending it on, and you can start making plans to rein in your expenses and set some of that money aside. If you think you need help building a budget, there are a ton of apps out there (some of which are totally free) that can help you through the process. To start your search, check out our Personal Finance App Directory, where we have an entire section on apps for budgeting.Angel also mentions saving money for emergencies, which is a commonly overlooked part of building your long-term wealth. Starting and maintaining an emergency fundâ"one where youâre not worried about accruing interest and can easily access the money when you need itâ"gives your finances a crucial guardrail against unexpected expenses.Without money set aside for emergencies, you could end up dipping into your savings to pay those bills, wiping out all your hard work. And thatâs not even the worst thing that could happen. If you donât have an emergency fund or an investment account, you could end up in the clutches of a predatory lender. An emergency fund will help protect you from unsafe bad credit loans, like payday loans and title loans, which can trap you in dangerous cycle of d ebt.2. Pay Yourself FirstThe point of a budget isnât just to track your spending, itâs to change the way you spend entirely. When you make a budget, you should be curbing your expenses and setting aside those extra funds for saving and investments. After all, you canât start investing if youâre spending every dollar you earn. Angel advises, âControl your spending and personal debt; this allows you to know how much room you have to invest.âThis brings us to a little principle called âPay Yourself First,â which is a way to reorder how you approach budgeting. Rather than waiting until the end of the budgeting process to see how much money you can square away, make it your first priority. Youâre paying âyourselfâ just like youre paying your landlord or your credit card company or your electricity provider. Youâre treating your own financial well-being with the importance it deserves.Another helpful tip for managing your budget priorities is to follow the 50/30/20 . According to this rule, you spend 50 percent of your budget on âneedsâ like rent, utilities, groceries, etc; you spend 30 percent of your budget on âwantsâ like dining out, going to the movies, and new clothes; and you spend 20 percent of your budget on your savings and your investments. Not everyone is going to be able to stick exactly to those ratios. But if you can get your budget close, youâre going to be set-up for long-term financial success.(For more on Pay Yourself First, check out our free course How to Save on OppUâ"our personal finance curriculum. We included the Pay Yourself First content from Lesson 4 below. Check it out or visit OppU for more!)Sweep Away Your Debt With a Debt Avalanche3. Save Every Way You Can!You know how people say âthereâs no such thing as free money?â Well, generally thatâs true. But when it comes to an employer 401k matching program, your employer is literally offering you free money. Itâs an exception that you should be taki ng full advantage of.It works like this: Your employer pledges to match any contribution you make up to a certain amount, usually expressed as a percentage of your paycheck. For example, an employer offering a 3 percent match will be matching any funds you put into your account up to 3 percent of your paycheck. That money will accrue interest over time, and while it might not accrue a lot per year, that interest will really add up over the course of 30 to 50 yearsâ"just in time for you to start withdrawing funds after you retire. If your employerâs offering matching funds, then do everything in your power to make the room in your budget. Itâs as simple as that.âTake advantage of your employer 401k match program, Angel says. Contribute the max if possible. No free money left behind!âObviously, if you donât work a job where your employer offers a 401k retirement savings account with matching funds, this wonât apply to you. But for those of you who do, this advice is a must. 4. Make your money work!âOnce you have a flow of saving and paying bills timely, Angel says, see how much more you can contribute to investing, maybe an additional one to five percent into an IRA and/or stocks.âItâs important that you take care of your emergency funds and your cash flow before you worry about investing. Failing to build up those funds or forgetting to pay a bill on time could lead to immediate financial trouble. It could negatively impact your credit or even lead to you taking out one or more sketchy no credit check loans from an unsavory lender.Make a schedule that lets you know when all your bills are due. Set reminders on your phone and on your digital calendar. Better yet, automate your bills through your bankâs online portal. That way, even if you forget to pay a bill, itâll still get paid.(This doesnât mean that you should stop paying attention to your bills. Itâs just a very handy stop-gap in case you forget.)Cash flow is all about having the m oney you need when you need it. If you have too many bills that are due during a single period try calling your lender or utility company and arranging a new due date. Most of them will be happy to help you, especially if you have a good payment history.Once youâve built up your savings to account for unforeseen expenses, look at diverting some of those funds towards investments or see where else you can tweak your budget to free up additional monies. If youâve gotten this far into the process, you should already be a budgeting master. As Angel advises, look to contribute an additional one to five percent. While you could put that money directly into your 401k, most financial advisors will tell you to invest it elsewhere. 401ks are great for getting those matching funds, but their lower interest yields mean that your additional money might be more useful elsewhere. If youâre already maxing out your matching funds or your employer doesnât offer a 401k, you should look at ope ning an individual investment account or IRA. The yearly contribution limit for an IRA is $5,500, or $6,500 for people over 50. Depending on the type of account, you can either contribute money post-tax or you can use pre-tax dollars which youâll then pay tax on when you withdraw the funds down the road. Another option besides an IRA is to invest in stocks.5. Be Realistic.Youve budgeted, built up a savings, and gotten your arms around all your bills and expenses. Excellent! You are now in the enviable position to be able to invest some of your income. This is great news! But make sure your expectations are realistic. Angel cautions that we should, Understand investing is a risk and may not always be a reward.â This is especially true when it comes to investing in in the stock market. When you are making an investment or buying stock in the company, you are doing so with the expectation that your investment will grow. However, there is always the chance that your investment wonât yield any results at all.Even relatively safe accounts like a 401k or a Roth IRA or a pension are subject to changes in the stock market. Remember in 2008 when the stock market tanked and all those folks had their retirement savings decimated? Hopefully, we wont see another crash like that in our lifetime, but its certainly possible.Investing can come with great rewards, but thatâs only because it also carries risk. Remember that.6. Get Coaching. If youâre reading this article, youâre probably hoping for a 100 percent DIY solution to your problem. But even if you can make great progress on your own, itâs still advisable to talk with a real financial professional. Angel recommends it too: âSpeak with an advisor or financial professional to gain a better understanding.âCheck with your bank or credit card companies to see if they offer any free sessions with an advisor. You can also look for local programs in your community. Once youâve found someone, make sure to check online to see whether or not other people have had a good experience.Even if you have to pay for a session with a financial advisor, it could still be a very worthwhile investment. Make sure you come in prepared, ask a lot of questions, and help them help you get on the path to a brighter financial future. What questions do you have about getting to the next financial level? Wilde wrote a dark tale of a man, Dorian Gray, who destroys his life by exchanging his soul for eternal youth and beauty. This year students have taken a rather exciting adventure into the wonderful world of conflict resolution; more importantly, conflict resolution in the church. For the past six weeks students have constantly studied the different type of conflicts as well as the different methods of resolving the conflicts in question. This paper will cover a variety of the types of conflicts and some of the resolution learned in the class this year. In addition to that, the paper will also detail different case studies of the Bible where these particular conflicts are shown, how they developed, and finally, how they were resolved. One of the first examples of conflict resolution we discovered was conflict that is resolved by cessation of proximity.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Paul not really wanting a repeat of what transpired in the past actually disagrees with Barnabas. Even though Mark is involved in the conflict, the actually conflict is between the close friends Paul and Barnabas. Nevertheless, the motivating interest in the conflict was that Paul for one did not want another repeat where a brother would desert him while preaching the Gospel of the Lord. Secondly, Paul more than likely questioned Markââ¬â¢s faith in Christ after he fled so easily the first time. The conflict yet is finally resolved when Paul and Barnabas that the cessation of proximity approach and split from each other. This is one of the saddest splits of the Bible in the eyes of many scholars. After this co nflict, Paul and Barnabas are never mentioned together again. Another conflict resolution method is attempting to resolve a conflict by speaking the truth in love. Examining the Behavior Between Media and Antisocial...
Nowadays, aggressive and violent behaviour have been said to be caused by media violence in many researches. Media violence has been defined as ââ¬Å"visual portrayals of acts of physical aggression by one human or human-like character against anotherâ⬠while violent behaviour is defined as overt and intentional physically aggressive behaviour against another person. I found that PsycINFO database from Ovid is useful and reliable as apart from providing clear reference details for every text, it highlights keywords in search results, and this really raise efficiency. The difference in the content of programs watched by males and females during adolescence and early adulthood is yet to be explored. There has been little research has tested the general effect of violent lyrics on aggressive behaviour while holding musical tone constant, even very little research directly comparing the effects of media violence presented through visual and auditory modes. This study was aimed to examine the effect of violent lyrics with musical tone held constant and compare the violent visual and auditory media effects. Dimensions of Crisis Communication Revisited â⬠MyAssignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about the Dimensions of Crisis Communication Revisited. Answer: Introduction Kingdom holdings is one of the largest investors in hotels, the company has a great portfolio of leading hotels and holds a majority interest in international hotel management companies. The strategic approach of the Kingdom holdings is to identify optimal opportunities to invest and derive value from underperforming or undervalued assets worldwide. KHC adopts a very scientific method in evaluating the investment opportunities; it does a strong research and analysis of the current global market dynamics and understanding of the local or regional market before reaching to any conclusion (Al Qurtuby Aldamer, 2018). The company besides investing in Hotels and Hotel management companies also has vested interest in variety of sectors like, consumer, education, energy, financial , healthcare, manufacturing, media and education, private equity, hospitality, aviation, real estate and technology. Kingdom holdings investment strategy is based on the three pillars of sustainable business growt h, diversification and geographic expansion. This is one of the strong contributing factors behind the extension of Kingdom Holdings services from regional to global markets. A number of projects developed in Saudi Arabia are a benchmark of the success for Kingdom Holdings. The company continues to contribute to the nation and its economy by investing in undervalued assets and develop them to churn money. Investment in high performance and leading brands, long term investment approach, extracting value from underperforming assets and network of contact are the pillars on which Kingdom Holdings successful investment strategy is based The 38 year old conglomerate has been in news recently for all the wrong reasons. Its chairman and founder Alwaleed Bin Talal was arrested as a part of anti-corruption purge in Saudi Arabia, since then the shares of Kingdom Holdings have been plummeting. The purpose of the report is to identify the crisis situation for Kingdom holdings and the journalistic angles related with the crisis situation. To what extent cultural differences play a role in situation of a crisis and how the organization should respond to the growing speculation on the fate of the company. At the end, some recommendation will be provided on how an organization should ideally handle crisis at hand. Crisis at Kingdom Holdings-Detention of Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal was born in the year 1955 in Riyadh, went to Menlo College and holds a net worth of 18.7 Billion USD is the brain behind Kingdom Holdings (Sakr, 2016). Alwaleed Bin Talal who is one of the wealthiest individual was arrested along with some 200 prominent businessman and Saudi royals on the eve of Nov 8, 2017 by the anti-corruption in anti-corruption probe. 45th Richest man on the planet earth, which is at the helm of investment and is a frequent guest in a lot of shows at CNN, CNBC and fox news, the news of his detention was not received well amongst the shareholders of the Kingdom Holdings. The shares plunged to the deepest ocean, and fell much lower than the lowest the lowest mark company hit in the year 2000. According to one of the journalist, Novak (CNBC), there is definitely more to the news of the Princes arrest. According to the journalist, the Prince was known for his good work and brilliant investment strategy which helped the Saudi nation considera bly. According to some of the earlier news, the new Crown Prince had him detained to create an example in front of the wealthy people of Saudi (Almoualed, 2016). Issue Analysis on the arrest There was a lot of speculation surrounding the arrest of the Prince and till date, no one can claim with utmost certainty the reason for the Princes arrest. Some of the people who were involved in the anti-corruption probe gave out some of the reason for his arrest, some of them were: Prince took a royal loan after his investment sank in the year 2008 and he never fully paid the loan back to the government. It was told to one of the daily news that Prince openly criticized Prince Mohammeds reform program as being misguided, hence in order to take revenge the young leader got him arrested. However, the arrest was nothing like the usual treatment which is given to people who are detained with corruption charges, in the case of Prince he was taken into Ritz Carton, where he had almost all the freedom in the world and could enjoy the hospitality of the hotel. Prince was released after few days and in an official statement he said It was a misunderstanding by the government and the matter will be cleared in the coming time. He also said that he is in discussion with the government on several matters, and its just a matter of time before the entire story unfolds itself. The shares of Kingdom holdings fell 10% since his arrest, resulting in billions in losses for the shareholders of the company (Gross, 2017). The arrest of Prince created a situation of Panic for many international investors who were in talks with the Prince or were involved in financial dealings in Saudi and other Arab countries. The news of his detention was not received fairly well by them, and there were certain reports claiming some of the investors want to back down. However, nobody knows the reason why the arrest happened; the most believable reason until now is, being on the wrong side of the new Prince. Media Reactions to the Story There was very limited access to the Ritz Carlton hotel, where the Prince and other members of the royal family were detained; however some of the journalist got a chance to visit the facility and some of the detainees. Some points which came out from the media directly were: The detainees had access to good food, TV, coffee and everything; however there was no internet and Wi-Fi facilities so that the detainees cannot connect with the outer world and ask for some help. Prince was devoid of his right of appointing a lawyer to discuss the further strategy to come out of the detention and manage their reputation in the outside world. Speculation which was riding high in the market was that the new Prince wanted to emerge as the front runner in the development of Saudi and had a lot of vested interest in investment in and around the Saudi nation. Hence, in an ode to make a point he got the Prince arrested (Aarts Roelants, 2015). There were reports that initially Prince Alwaleed was not in good books of Prince Mohammad, he openly criticized the reform policy of the newly appointed leader, which certainly did not go down well with him, and hence in order to teach him a lesson, he got him detained. A lot of money, to the tunes of Billions of dollars was collected from the detainees by the government. Organization Analysis- Post Arrest After release The shares of Kingdom holding fell by 10%; it was first time in the history of the company that it shares dropped so much. From a fundamental standpoint the companys position was very strong, they were in no hurry to sell assets as they did not have any cash troubles going on for them. People believed that the government will punish the offender, if found guilty and not touch the company, hence the shareholders were not much worried. Kingdom holdings to hold onto its shareholdings in companies like Four Season Hotels, Apple, Twitter, Daimler, Accor and Citigroup. Cracks started appearing in the company, resignation of Mohamed Fahmy (CFO) definitely a sign of concern for Kingdom holdings. The position of the company did not suffer much in comparison to the image of the Prince which was tarnished in the entire process, however, the support of maximum companies is still with KHC and people still have heard half cooked stories, thereby KHC position is strong in the market (Ulrichsen, 2016). Major Stakeholders- Kingdom Holdings Some of the prominent stakeholders, where Kingdom holdings have invested deeply and were supporting the Prince even at the time of crisis were: Twitter Apple Citibank (Chorafas, 2014) Fox News-Kingdom holdings invested 5% more after the arrest Banque Saudi Fransi E-Bay Com Accor Hotels Crisis Communication Crisis communication in itself is a part of Public relation profession which is designed to protect and defend an individual, a company facing a public challenge for its reputation. In the case here, Kingdom holdings was in a middle of Crisis, when the Prince was taken from one of his desert camps and transported to Ritz Carlton, no one had the slightest of idea as to what has happened, and thus a situation of mayhem was created. It is to avert such situation and to keep the shareholders and stakeholders of the company at peace, companies devise what is called as a crisis communication plan. In the case of emergencies in an organization, the need for communication is immediate; hence it is required to be prepared for this kind of situation. It is advised that the business must be able to respond promptly, accurately and confidently during an emergency in the hours and the days to follow (Swamy, 2014). Recommendation for Kingdom Holding- Blueprint of Communication Plan It was mentioned in some earlier reports of the New York Times, a sum of 6 billion USD was asked from the Prince for his freedom. The amount even for 45th richest man on the planet earth is difficult to hand over to the government for the charges which were not even proven, hence the only option left were to either fight till the end, or strike a deal with the government and liquidate the company and still be the leader of Kingdom holdings. However, as mentioned the King was released after few months, the deals of negotiations are yet not clear, in those two months, Kingdom holding was functioning without its founder and leader, at the very same time, its CFO also resigned, definitely creating a difficult time for the company. A crisis communication plan would help the company to mask it from future uncertainties like these: Anticipate Crisis- The first step might sound like inviting trouble, but on the contrary its a preclusive step to avert any kind of crisis. A crisis communication team has to sit together and brainstorm on all the possible crisis issue which can surround the company; it can also be futuristic changes in the company which can lead to crisis. The idea here is to be prepared and have a beforehand knowledge of what can happen in future. This strategy will not only help in assessing the crisis, but will also help in formulation of defence strategy in any condition what so ever (Olsson, 2014). Identify crisis communication team-Creating a crisis communication team is really important, the team has to be ideally led by the CEO, along with his legal counsel and advisors. Followed by a small team of senior executives, PR agency, some individual consultants, subject matter experts and most experienced people in the organization. The team will be one of the best team to sit and brainstorm on any possible crisis which could occur and accordingly will be in a position to make a plan to diffuse the situation. Identify and train spokespersons-It is highly recommended that in case of crisis, people who have been trained after screening should only speak with the media. The person should have the right skill, should be in a right position and should have received the right training to be a spokesperson. 2 backup options also have to be created as a part of Plan B (Heide Simonsson, 2014). Spokesperson Training-Crisis communication is all about preserving the organization and not about promoting the organization. The stakeholders are the people who are maximum affected by the crisis, and in such a condition, they are in a state to misinterpret or misunderstand a sentence or a statement. Hence, the spokesperson should be given rigorous training before making him the chief spokesperson in the situation of crisis (Fearn-Banks, 2016) Establishment of notification and monitoring systems-In this age of disruption, where technology is playing central roles in the lives of people. It is extremely important to develop a notification system, which is different from other systems used during normal days. The information about the system should be given to the stakeholders and they have to be notified at the time of crisis, very useful in keeping all the stakeholders on the same page. Monitoring is the process of doing active social listening through Digital media, online channels, Twitter and Google; all these new platforms have made information accessible to even a remote location in few seconds. The crisis communication team have to monitor the conversation happening in and around their company, important players and changing ecosystem of the industry to sense any crisis coming in the way of the company. Identifying and knowing the stakeholders-Employees are the biggest stakeholders in any company, but besides them even the customers, suppliers, partners and shareholders are parts of the ecosystem. At the time of crisis, everybody will speak something or the other; hence it is advised to beforehand communicate the message through the notification system to all the stakeholders well in advance(Coombs, 2014) Developing holding statements-This is a standard fully developed created message, which is prepared to use in crisis situation. For some of the crisis situation these messages can be standardized. Hence, it is important to draft the message for 5-6 possible crisis scenarios well in advance. Post Crisis Assessing the crisis situation-Reacting to the crisis without having adequate information is a classic example of how the company responds poorly in situation of crisis. However, with the completion of the pre-crisis steps, the crisis communication team has to come out and preserve the position of the company by not disclosing any information which is not available publically, maintain the privacy and secrecy and convince the stakeholders of everything being in a wellbeing state (Hawkins Lee, 2017). Finalize and adapt the key message-After assessing the crisis situation, and improving the holding statement after receiving fresh pieces of information, the crisis communication team by this time is aware of what is the information the stakeholders are looking for in a statement. Drafting the statement matching the need of the stakeholders is the key step post crisis (Graham, 2016). Post crisis analysis-This is a formal analysis after the clouds of worry have long gone. The crisis communication team has to sit together, analyse what were the key takeaways from the entire process, what went good, what went wrong and what could have been done to improve the process. This would then serve as benchmark for future crisis situation (Jain, 2015). Conclusion Every organization is vulnerable to crisis these days hence the importance of communication plan is crucial in the present context. The case here is of the Founder and CEO of Kingdom Holdings, who was detained for few weeks by the Saudi Government; this was a situation of crisis for the company. The entire process was highly guarded and was in complete secrecy, therefore it was a difficult situation for Kingdom holdings, the company was clueless about its way forward, the stocks plummeted to 10% and the CFO was quitting the organization. To avoid such crisis, a crisis communication plan has been devised for the company, wherein they have to create a crisis communication team and take all the proactive measures before the crisis, during and after the crisis. To conclude, it can be said, the better the level of preparedness, accuracy and attention to detail, the probability of averting crisis increases. Their contributions to the modern world Essay Example For Students
Their contributions to the modern world Essay Its an amazing thought how the Sumerian economy was a highly developed one and had man legalities, such as contracts, deeds, wills, and promises to pay-I actually thought that such laws were very recent ones. There were many disputes over inheritance, divorce settlements, and personal injury. Legal cases were heard by king, who also set interest rates, prices, wages, and measures. Gradually, law codes were formed after many trials and cases. A simply startling fact is that being one of the first civilizations ever, that too about 6,000 years ago, the Sumerians invented the wheel, which they used both for making pottery and for vehicles. We will write a custom essay on Their contributions to the modern world specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now They had four-wheeled wagons for transporting goods and two-wheeled chariots for war6. The Sumerians also developed the concept of using mud bricks to build houses and temples because they didnt have wood and stone. I believe that such a technique was a very effective one because whenever the mud-brick walls of a temple collapsed from age or accident, the ruins served as the basis for building a new temple. It expanded and formed into something known as ziggurat, which was a sequence of one building rising on the ruins of another, which came to resemble giant steps. 7 An astonishing fact is that the ziggurat still remains in Iraq despite the Civil, Gulf, and the very recent war (2003) that just took place. Even from the inside these monuments are breathtaking with frescoes and sculptures adorning the walls of temples many rooms. It is believed that the ziggurats were artificial hills, built in honor of various deities. It was the center of daily undertakings of certain transactions and exchanges, for example, where a tablet went to the donor as a receipt, and the other was deposited in the sacred archives. 8 Through my research, I found that not only were the Sumerians, in my opinion, the fathers of invention, but they were also skilled metalworkers. Besides excelling at making jewelry, they made vessels, statues, toilet sets, axes, daggers, saws and other weapons and tools. Like weavers and potters, metalworkers were a professional class often employed by the temple. The Sumerians priests developed a simple arithmetic in the process of keeping temple accounts and invented the unit 60, 9which marvelously is still used to measure angles. Priests also believed that the gods caused illness so they devised many ointments and portions to help sufferers. However, the most important achievement of the priests was cuneiform writing, which went through several stages of development. The first stage in Sumerian writing was clearly pictorial, with picture symbols standing for concrete objects and actions. For example, a simple drawing of a round roughly spherical circle meant head and two wavy lines meant water. But very soon certain pictures were made to stand for a little more complex words. For example, the Sumerian sign for mouth also came to mean, speak. That is quite a remarkable progress considering the time period this all happened. Over the centuries, the implementation of writing changed. Literate people began to communicate in more intimate ways, setting down messages such as your loving wife who has had a child10. Cuneiform was taught to priests in school, and copybooks show that education was chiefly by memorizing and copying, a practice which is still applied today. From here on, many cultures evolved their own scripts in the following centuries. On a religious level, the Sumerians thought that the universe was a great city-state ruled by an assembly of gods and worked by men, who were created only to serve the gods. 11 This sort of thinking was something I have read many a times about earlier civilizations such as the Greek and the Roman. The gods were worshipped in elaborate ceremonies conducted in the temples by priests and kings. I find it overwhelming how each individual prayed to his own personal god to bring him luck. .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .postImageUrl , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:hover , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:visited , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:active { border:0!important; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:active , .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uac2e27dc8c004b14ec73079f75989c7f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: You Are What You Eat EssayIm sure that individual felt very lucky to have the benefit of a personal god, whose statue was fed and dressed, and the worshipper offered devotion in return for favors. Amusingly, the Sumerians believed that although gods preferred good to evil, they, nevertheless, created such evils as old age and sickness. Keeping all these qualities of the Sumerian civilization, it however met its eventual fate. The Sumerians were constantly at war with one another and other peoples, for water was a scarce and a valuable resource. The Semitic people, as in people who spoke a related language such as Hebrew and Arabic, migrated from the Arabian Peninsula. They were known as the Akkadians. 12 They battled the Sumerians and emerged victorious, settling in Akkad, a city later came to be known as Babylon. Nevertheless, despite the fact that the Sumerian civilization had come to an end, the Akkadian kingdom had adopted the Sumerian customs and culture, and furthermore, their inventions are still probably the most useful and essential ones to date. There are certain similarities between the personalities of Huck and Edna .Edna is struggling to find her "real place " in her socirty . She is oppressed and dealing with sexism . A part of her conscious is aware of this inequality and it stings her soul abusively . An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in the same familiar part of her conscious filled her whole being with a vague anguish . It was like a shadow ,like a mist passing across her soul's summer day . It was strange and unfamiliar ;it was a mood . How do events become media events Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
How do events become media events - Essay Example ial networking platforms and mediaââ¬â¢ then they could probably cite a strong point of view by attributing the man who killed his wife because of her internet addiction. Then the more the media would cover this event, allowing many people to provide their stands, the said story then starts to become a great media event, as there would be many people involved by taking the event right to their heart, making them fully involved. This is the same trend we might probably observed from the September 11 USA terrorism attack. If there would be no television or other media from the other side of the world and USAââ¬â¢s adjacent countries, it would take time to hear about what was happening that time to the worldââ¬â¢s twin towers in New York. After the attack, it would most probably took time to keeping popular number of people about the news report. Publicity would be too slow that many people would miss the opportunity to take the event right to their heart. However, since the wi de coverage of media continues to lead us people and becoming integrated with our life at present, the September 11 attack remained a remarkable history that todayââ¬â¢s generation could impart to the future. Media therefore have become powerful agents of publicity, allowing great news event to become great media event. Right after the September 11 attack, there were various news reported associated with the event. For couple of months, local and internatianal news reports from various parts of the world were primary important headlines, and many opinions, stands, symphaties or reactions begun to flinch from the audience, making the event a great media event, just like what happened to Princess Dianaââ¬â¢s funeral and Prince Charles and Kateââ¬â¢s matrimonial ceremony. The flu virus and its associated... The "How do events become media events?" essay describes the influence of media on our perception of some life events. Why some of them would no longer create remarkable impact or special response? The flu virus and its associated detrimental impacts on the human health was once become a media event as people discovered that SARS for instance could potentially wipe out the human race. Everyday, the media would cover the progress of mortality rate and the probable place affected by the pandemic. Via broadcasters, people were informed about the said news event, allowing everyone to stop for a while from doing their daily routines, and focus on understanding the right thing to do in order not to contract the disease. The news event about SARS progressed to becoming a great media event, as people paid considerable amount of time concerning the event. However, the entire piece of this could be attributed to the level of publicity that the media were able to impart with the consuming publi c. It is therefore clear that media publicity is a common activity normally associated with media events. Media events operate as public arenas where people find themselves engaged in the political debates and political actions that are responsible for shaping the world around them. This could potentially be illustrated through the US presidential election. The Democrats and Republicans have various and conflicting ideologies which they used to defend their stands and ultimate perspectives on certain political, social, and economic issues.

Living and Working in Korea Essay Example for Free
Living and Working in Korea Essay The case of Ellen Moore is very interesting and diverse, because it shows different reasons why problems can occur in a project management and teamwork and highlights how cultural differences can affect the work in a very negative way. There are several reasons why the project has run into problems. Some of these could have been foreseen but some not. The main problem is that there were wrong decisions made when creating the team and also some risks were incorrectly assessed to be less important than they actually turned out to be. First of all in selecting project management representative Andrew Kilpatrick underestimated the cultural differences and did not listen enough to the warning from American consultants with WSI in Korea that it is impossible to send a woman to work in Korea. I donââ¬â¢t think it is completely impossible for a woman to work in Korea, but Ellen should have been more prepared and more informed about the local traditions particularly about the team building and after-work dinners and how the Koreansââ¬â¢ respect for position and status would influence the teamsââ¬â¢ behavior. From the case it seems like too many things came as a surprise to Ellen and it was hard to focus on the primary tasks. Another problem was in the team composition especially in allocating roles. There were 2 project co-managers ââ¬â Ellen and Jack ââ¬â assigned to the team. But Jack was given an impression that he will be the sole project leader. For this reason Ellenââ¬â¢s addition to the team created tension between them and from the beginning and this undermined their chances to work together for the same goal. If it was decided to have 2 equal project manager positions, then their roles should have been allocated. For example each project manager would have specific areas of responsibilities and the rest of the team would be informed about these responsibilities. Instead both project managers ended up fighting for the power instead of working towards the common goal. The development of the events in the team also suggests that it was a wrong decision to appoint 2 team managers, because it is clear that the team performed better when they were led by one team leader ââ¬â whenà Jack was around the Korean team would follow his instructions, but when Jack was away and Ellen was the only leader the team cooperated and worked well under her supervision and coaching. The third problem was the expertise and experience of the Korean consultants. The American part of the team was only partially informed about the teamsââ¬â¢ qualifications. But it soon turned out that none of them had sufficient previous experience to work on this project. That the teamsââ¬â¢ inexperience turned out to be one of the reasons the project ran into problems is partially because of Ellenââ¬â¢s overconfidence. When she realized what is the actual qualification and experience of the team members she thought she could work around it and train the people on the team. Instead of suggesting changes in the team she relied on her skills as a coach to improve the situation. All these reasons are to blame that the project is in serious trouble and without clear action plan the project cannot be put back on track. One solution that could be done to get the project back on schedule is for Andrew to take on a more active role in the teams work and become the team leader in Korea and oversee both Ellen and Jack and the whole team. Since both Mr.Song and Mr.Park think that Ellen is the problem and is not effective, there is not much she can do to continue the role as the team leader because the supervisors in Korea donââ¬â¢t back her up. And in this situation it would be hard for her to become the team leader over Jack. If all the team members remain in their place under Andrews supervisions, roles to each member should be allocated also tem members need to be motivated to work together to achieve the goal. Rewards for cooperation and tem work could be in place here. Another alternative could be removing Jack from the team and find a Korean consultant that has experience with SI projects. This solution would eliminate the tension in the team and also increase the professional capacity of the team. If the budget of the project allows one more possibility would be to include additional team members with more expertise to assist the team. Also changing the team members could be a solution, butà there might be not enough time to completely change the team and still manage to finish the project on schedule. Although the situation is rather complex because the team is dealing not only with professional problems but also with personnel problems and problems caused by not understanding the different culture, there are some things that Ellen could have done differently. First of all she should have tried to draw Andrews and Mr. Parkââ¬â¢s and Mr. Songââ¬â¢s attention to the fact that the team members are not qualified enough to work on this project in the early stages of the project. She should have asked to either change the weakest members of the team or have additional training for the team to raise their level of expertise. As for cooperation with Jack I think that the fight for the power between the two of them was inevitable, but one way how to try to deal with the situation could have been Ellenââ¬â¢s initiative to establish some ground rules on how they interact with the team, how they divide responsibilities between them. Her background information shows that she had previous experience in leading teams so probably also knowledge in conflict resolution and motivating people. Clearly Jack needed some motivation to become a team player. But altogether I think that most of the problems occurred because Ellenââ¬â¢s supervisors made wrong assessments about the project and the situation and also made some bad decisions in the beginning.

The Awakening, written by Kate Chopin, tells the story of one womanââ¬â¢s path to finding self-discovery. Edna Pontellier, the lady, who transforms herself from an obedient housewife to a person who is alive with strength of character and emotions which she no longer has to repress. How an individualââ¬â¢s true nature could conflict with societal expectations is revealed. It deals with the day-to-day realities that a woman may face if she chooses to pursue her own needs and desires that do not fit with what society expects. To remain true to oneââ¬â¢s conviction a woman must have relentless strength and courage. This metamorphosis is shaped by her surroundings. Just as her behavior is more shocking and horrifying because of her position in society, it is that very position which causes her to feel restrained and makes her yearn to rebel. Yet, this story shows how the good and bad that comes along with choosing to live outside of society norms. Another point that Chopin make s is how devalued a husband can make a wife feel. This treatment could lead to a woman finding and pursuing different desires that she would not have otherwise pursued. In The Awakening, Kate Chopinââ¬â¢s main character, Edna Pontellier is ââ¬Å"awakenedâ⬠to a desire to live a life free of the accountability of her existing life as a wife, mother, and a homemaker in order to be the independent woman that realizes she wants to be. She awakens first to a discontentment in her life, then to a mental awakening, to the passion of music and art, to the pleasure of her own body, and finally, to boundaries that she no longer wishes uphold. For Edna that was a life of solitude, which was unbearable for her to accept. Chopin reveals how a person can gradually become affected by her enviro... ...lfill her newly awakened self. Edna finds suicide as the only option to pursue when she see that living in her world is purposeless and maintain her newfound identity is impossible. Within Edna was the desire that is within nearly every human being, the desire to be born free, to have live their own life, to, quite simply, embrace the value of independence. Edna drowning herself and not killing herself, draws a symbolism of the water as a representation of realizing freedom. Her suicide was meant to be a demonstration of her finally realizing that she couldnââ¬â¢t controlled by societal roles and expectations. Also, the symbolism of the bird offers a slightly different alternative; as a bird with a broken wing, Edna is a victim of fate and her society. Ednaââ¬â¢s wings are not strong enough to overcome gravity; she weighted down by the forces that society imposes on her.

Exploratory Writing Essay
I came from a family with a hereditary disease called diabetes. All my relatives in the father side already have diabetes and as we all know, this is a killer disease. If people with diabetes do not consider control of their blood sugar and use sugar-free products then what would become of them. Most likely, they could have organ malfunction and worse, dead. Based on experience, most dieticians recommend that we, diabetics use sugar free products. However, maybe the lot of them has not read the article that I had come across with when I was researching about sugar-free products. It has been stated in Science Daily last February 13, 2006 that sugar-free products contain substances that can cause cancer to rats. It was stated in the article there is a certain percentage of consumption of the artificial sweeteners that we call ââ¬Å"sugar-freeâ⬠sweeteners. These substances have been already used in many products in the market. This does not only include sodas but also in the bread and candies available in the market. Even though it has not yet been proven that humans are really affected by these substances there are evidences that rats develop carcinogenic cells. Rats are also living creatures and if the sugar-free substance affects the rats, then it would definitely affect humans. I asked some of the member of the family and they also agree about the matter. There are possible solutions to this problem, my family and I could consider stopping the use of sugar-free substances. However, this proves to be difficult because if not for the sugar-free substances then this may cause our blood sugars to go sky high. It is really hard for diabetics to control their own cravings for sugar. Almost everybody that I know have a sweet tooth. However, since artificial sweeteners could prove to be very harmful to our health then maybe we ought to think twice before eating foods that contain artificial sweeteners.
